Introduction

Food has become something of a question mark in modern American culture.  In a place where processed pre-packaged food is the norm, where cereal can provide health benefits, and entire aisles in a supermarket are devoted to frozen food, it seems that almost anything goes.  The Food and Drug Administration has provided a little bit of clarity with the use of food labels, but is that enough?  Through illustrations of nutrition facts of typical American food and associations of food, my final paper highlights the underlying issues that affect the way Americans see and relate to food today.
